Charlotte Acupuncture and Wellness Center CLINIC HISTORY

About Us

Charlotte Acupuncture and Wellness Center was founded by Hope Peek, LAc and Todd George, LAc with the goal of providing the Charlotte area with high-quality acupuncture, massage, and herbal services. Hope and Todd have complementary specialties in their practice of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. Hope has a heartfelt passion, thorough training, and considerable experience in treating reproductive health issues. Todd is focused on the treatment of various pain issues, migraine headaches, insomnia, anxiety, stress, depression, fatigue, and digestive issues. Together, they treat many patients with a variety of conditions either as a complement or alternative to their conventional medical care.

Both Hope and Todd have completed an extensive amount of training in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. They received Masters of Science degrees in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) from the prestigious Southwest Acupuncture College in Santa Fe, NM. Southwest Acupuncture College is one of the oldest and most respected educational institutions of Oriental Medicine in the United States, and the MSOM degree is the highest fully accredited degree available in the field of acupuncture and Oriental medicine. The MSOM program consists of over 3,000 hours of postgraduate training in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine and is completed over four academic years. With over 1,000 hours of the program being devoted to clinical training, Southwest Acupuncture College is well-known for graduating highly-skilled practitioners.

In addition to their training in the United States, Hope and Todd have studied abroad and completed advanced hospital-based acupuncture internships at the China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center and the Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine - Dongzhimen Hospital, People’s Republic of China. These internships included clinical training in medical hospitals in China, and this training allowed Hope and Todd to work with some of China’s most experienced and respected doctors of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine. It also gave them the experience of seeing how acupuncture works very well when used along with conventional Western medicine in an integrated setting.

In addition to their traditional Chinese medicine training, Hope and Todd have been exposed to several methods of traditional Japanese acupuncture, including Toyo Hari. Toyo Hari is a highly refined and gentle form of Japanese acupuncture, also known as Meridian Therapy (Keiraku-chiryo). Hope and Todd completed a series of intensive seminars with Sensei Takayuki Koei Kuwahara. Sensei Kuwahara was formally trained in Japan and also apprenticed under Kodo Fukushima, a renowned Meridian Therapy master.

Hope and Todd also have experience working with community acupuncture. Beyond the community style acupuncture that they encountered in Chinese hospitals, they worked in a mixed community acupuncture and massage clinic in Wailuku on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Acupuncture is given in a group setting in a community acupuncture clinics, and most American community acupuncturists typically focus on using acupuncture points only in the extremities and/or the ears. Hope and Todd's clinical experience in the Maui clinic also afforded them the opportunity to practice acupuncture techniques not commonly taught in most acupuncture schools. These approaches included Tan's Balance Method acupuncture and Master Tung acupuncture.

Hope and Todd are both specialists in the practice of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. They are Licensed Acupuncturists (LAc) in the State of North Carolina and are nationally board certified as Diplomates in Oriental Medicine (Dipl. OM) by the National Certification Commission in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). The NCCAOM is the only recognized national organization to certify practitioners in acupuncture and Oriental medicine. As well, the Diplomate in Oriental Medicine is the highest level certification granted by the NCCAOM and is awarded to practitioners that have proven their knowledge and competency in the practice of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
